SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS OF PIPE NETWORK
ABSTRACT
Water is one of the basic needs of human being. Now-a-days most of the cities are facing water shortage hence the transportation of water is one of the main area where we can try to minimize the losses and hence save water. A group of interconnected pipes forming a several loops or circuits is called a network of pipes. Such networks are commonly used for municipal water distribution in cities. The main problem in pipe network is of determining the distribution of flow through the various pipes of the network such that all conditions of the flow are satisfied so that the network is balanced. In the recent study Hardy Cross Method is used for calculating the optimum discharge in a pipe of a network and this depends in the varied pipe parameters such as the diameter of the pipe, friction coefficient of the pipe, velocity. The present study also focuses on the identification of relative sensitive parameters. For this purpose a few design parameters of the pipe network such as diameter, velocity, discharge, and friction are considered. This study will help in determining the optimum discharge in a particular pipe of the network and will help in rehabitation of the pipe network. In a large city particularly sensitive pipe networks should be categorized for their sensitivity with respect to parameters diameter, friction factor etc. So that while maintenance and rehabitation proper care should be taken about the sensitivity so that the discharge in the adjacent pipes remains approximately same and the needs of the people are satisfied.
