CODE DIVISION MULTIPLE ACCESS
Abstract:
This paper presents a clear view of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) which is one of the second-generation digital mobile telephone standards.
CDMA is the integration of both TDMA and FDMA technologies. CDMA spreads the signal over a wide bandwidth, identifying each channel using unique digital codes.
CDMA is particularly attractive for India and will prevail in a wire free world than GSM .The network based on CDMA technology aims to cover more than 65 percent of India's urban population.
This paper distinguishes the multiple access methods and the main aspects are design considerations like architecture, radio environments and spread spectrum techniques, different coding techniques, call processing and power control. It focuses on the concept of handoffs and frequency reuse. It also gives an idea of how 3G CDMA supports the PC-mobile phone convergence.
INTRODUCTION:
With well over 100 million public mobile users today, and more new mobile systems being rapidly installed all over the world, there is very little doubt that wireless will be the main access of the choice for future.
At present, wireless networks support the first generation analog systems such as AMPS, TACS, CT-2, NMT, DECT and PHS as well as the second generation digital systems, which include D-AMPS, GSM, PDC, CDMA and DCS1800.EDGE and GPRS comes under 2.5G.These systems have enabled voice communications to go wireless in many of the leading markets. The third generation systems are designed for multimedia communication.
