For raising the economy of the country transportation plays a very important role. Every day thousands of vehicles are running from one place to another, out of which several are crossing the state border. Considering the diesel & petrol usage wear & tear of vehicle accessories & transportation time, The National Highway Authority of India, proposed National Highway Development Project (NHDP). NHDP undertook the main responsibility of developing.

• GOLDEN QUADRILATERAL
• NORTH-SOUTH AND EAST-WEST CORRIDOR
Project divided in to two parts:
• PHASE I : GOLDEN QUADRILATERAL connecting the metros..
It is 6000-km long highway.
• PHASE II : NORTH-SOUTH AND EAST-WEST CORRIDORS
connecting Srinagar to Kanyakumari and Silchar to Porbandar.
The Golden Quadrilateral (GQ) is India’s largest expressway project. It consists of 5846 kilometers of four/six lane expressways connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Cheenai. This project is scheduled for substantial completion by December 2004. As of 31,2004, 2482 kilometers have been completed. The GQ project is managed by the National Highway Authority of India under the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways – Government of India.
• NHDP project was started in January 1999 at Devanhalli Kerala.
• Estimated to be completed by 2007 .
• This project will link 10 major ports namely
