Abstract:

“Fist” sized brain knows no limits. It can sense and even knows what it seems and what it imagines….? But what limitation lies in the eye. It is not able to see beyond certain limits. These limits are widened or sometimes even vanished by image processing.

Normal images can be enhanced and viewed more specifically by electronic means. Image processing is a tool used for enhancing the image qualities. Image undergoes number of algorithms to adjust it perfectly so that image can be viewed exactly how the viewer needs. Satellite image processing uses satellites to take the images round the globe and in space. The unlimited boundaries of space can be explored using satellite image processing. Study of planets including our home, The Earth can be best understood using satellite image processing.

First section explains basic image processing that is required for satellite image processing, which includes introduction, basic terms such as digitization, digital image and tools used for image processing.

Second section contains satellite image processing and different algorithms, which processes the different images obtained from various satellites. Going further tools used by different softwares to enhance the quality of image obtained are explained.

Finally the different application areas are touched that includes military applications, Weather applications and geographical applications.
