VIRTUAL MANUFACTURING SYSTEM
ABSTRACT:
Virtual manufacturing (VM) is an integrated, synthetic manufacturing environment VM enable lean and agile manufacturing, improve product and process design, reduce manufacturing risks, support manufacturing system changes, enhance product service and repair, increase manufacturing understanding and provides a vehicle for manufacturing training and research.
The demand for shorter production runs and faster response to market is growing day by day at very high pace. To achieve this we need to have an system that can effectively control. In VMS range of possible configurations for particular production run can be simulated very efficiently and quickly. This optimization is done prior to manufacturing and, once proved satisfactory, the appropriate control commands are download to the actual physical plant.
This paper presents the study of virtual manufacturing systems which includes concept of VMS. Technologies related to VMS, requirements of VMS, and simulation architecture required for VMS.
INTRODUCTION:
Virtual manufacturing system (VMS) is interpreted by various authors differently. For example, a few definitions follow:
• VMS is an integrated computer based model, which represent the physical and logical schema and behavior of real manufacturing.
• VMS is a concept of executing manufacturing process in computers well as in the real world.
• VMS are integrated computer models that represent the precise and whole structure of manufacturing system and simulate their physical and logical behavior in operation.
• VMS is a key concept that summarizes computerized manufacturing dealing with models and simulations instead of objects and their operation in the real world.1
• VM is an integrated, synthetic manufacturing environment exercised to enhance all levels of decision and control in a manufacturing enterprise.
• VMS is defined as a computer system which can generate the same information about manufacturing system’s structure, states, and behavior as we can observe in a real manufacturing system.
