TIME COMPRESSION IN PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT THROGH RAPID PROTOTYPING
Abstract:
In the world scenario, the product, which arrives first in the market, always stands to gain. The conventional method of product development takes considerable amount of time to bring out the first prototype. Even with the aid of advanced CAD technologies in which we can visualize the product, the fabrication of the prototype is not often cost effective, when you have a large number of designs in store. Rapid Prototyping is a technology in which one can create the physical model of the prototype from its 3-D CAD model. This paper describes the various Rapid Prototyping technologies, materials used for RP and the applications of RP. It also talks about the advantage and disadvantages of RP. This paper mainly looks at the various cases where RP has enabled time compression in product development. Finally it looks at the future and emerging trends of Rapid Prototyping.
