National Workshop on molecular Simulation & Chemoinformatics approaches towards new drug development (MSCNDD) At Karunya Institute of Technology, Coimbatore
About Workshop
The clinical application of drugs in the treatment of diseases has been limited by severe toxic side effects during administration of the drugs. Thus it has been the objective of numerous studies to prepare better and safe drugs. Combined approach of computer simulations, and Chemoinformatics could be utilized for generation of effective drug agents (inhibitor) against disease (target). As a result of this, a large number of candidate drugs have been developed till now. These two methods provide the data set for development of computational models, for virtual screening and prediction of biological activity of the new drug to be developed in the near future. These computational models also reduce the number of candidate molecules that needs to synthesized and tested, reducing both cost and time in the process of drug development.
Also the above said technique will provide a unique platform to all the researchers working in this field to screen new molecules which are synthesized. The main problem of any drug and other agents, which substantially reduces their therapeutic usefulness, lies in their scant selectivity because these substances affect diseased and normal cells alike and lead to the appearance of adverse side effects. This could be elucidated by exploring the mechanism and mode of action of these agents with the receptor to calculate the probabilities of their existence, leading to deciphering their interaction, mechanism and activity which are very essential for the development of better and safe drugs.
This workshop intends to provide an arena for students and researchers in discussing the following topics as well as to provide hands on training in the following key areas for new drug development.
* Molecular Modeling and drug design
* Molecular dynamics simulations
* Pharmacokinetics
* Chemoinformatics
* High throughput screening
* Combinatorial chemistry
* 2D, 3D and pharmacophore based Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship (QSAR)
* Computer assisted drug design
* Rational drug design
* Structural Bioinformatics
* Medical informatics
* Pharmacoproteomics
* Pharmacogenomics
The workshop would be beneficial to: Students, Teaching faculty, Research Scholars and Scientists in Chemo- and Bioinformatics who are working in Academic Institutions and Government Research Laboratories.
About Karunya University
Karunya University, formerly Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences (KITS) was established in 1986 by the founders Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran and Dr. Paul Dhinakaran. Making rapid progress ever since, the Institute has now grown into a university winning recognitions and awards on its way: Best Engineering College in Tamilnadu (1996), first-ever autonomous self-financing college (2000), Deemed University (2004) and University (13th October 2006). The Institution has excellent academic, research and extra-curricular facilities effectively utilized by well-qualified and dedicated faculty and over 7000 students. UG, PG and PhD programs are offered in the fields of Engineering, Technology and Management. The quality facilities on the 700 acre campus include fully air conditioned library that stocks 55,000 volumes andsubscribes to 275 hard copy journals besides online subscription of electronic journals. The campus has a fiber optic lab system serving around 5500 computers with 64 Mbps connectivity.
