WORKSHOP on RESEARCH METHODOLOGY At National Institute of Technology, Calicut

WORKSHOP on RESEARCH METHODOLOGY At National Institute of Technology, Calicut

INTRODUCTION

There are two basic purposes for research: to learn something, or to gather evidence. Basic research has
the primary objective as advancement of knowledge and the theoretical understanding of the relations among
variables. It is the basic research through the theory generation that lays the foundation for applied research. Research follows certain processes such as defining the research problem, research design, hypothesis formulation, data collection, data analysis, testing and revision of hypothesis. Research methodology, with its structural process minimizes the degree of uncertainty in decision making.

OBJECTIVE

From recorded history, it is obvious that providers of different services are forever trying to devise better and
more efficient ways of accomplishing tasks. This is possible with increased activity in the basic research
and applied research.

The objective of this Workshop is to
Provide motivation to pursue research
Cater to increasing aspirations of faculty
Meet the challenges in educational environment
Provide guidelines for preparing research papers
