WORKSHOP ON PUBLIC KEY INFRASTRUCTURE (PKI) At NIT- National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur

The Government of India has taken the major initiative to make the country e-ready by initiating various e-governance implementations across the country like automation of Income tax, passport, etc. Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) forms the backbone for all these initiatives and the adoption of PKI and Digital Signature depends on the awareness of this technology among citizens of India. POP (PKI Outreach Programme) is a Nationwide PKI Awareness initiative by the Controller for Certifying Authority (CCA), MCIT, Government of India. The POP project is carried out by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Electronics City, Bengaluru which is a unit of CDAC, Mumbai (Formerly NCST). C-DAC is conducting various
programmes across the nation to create wide-scale awareness and National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur is one of such institutions. More details about the project can be found on www.pki-outreach.in

The target audience for this workshop is people from government departments, industries and academia. The maximum numbers of participants allowed for the workshop is 30.

The two days workshop focused on the technical aspects of PKI with more emphasis on Practical and Hand-on sessions for better understanding of the usage of Digital Signatures, Certificates and the overall PKI infrastructure.

The training covers:

o Basis of Cryptography
o PKI Algorithms
o PKI Components
o Digital Signatures
o PKI Standards & Polices
o Risks of PKI
o Developing PKI-based Applications
o PKI Scenario in India and in other Countries

The Practical Session & Hand-on Session covers:

o Installation of Certificates
o Creation of Enterprise Wide Root CA
o Digital Signing for Web Security
o E-Mail Security
o JAVA Libraries for PKI
o OCSP (Online Certificate Status Protocol)

The two day workshop fee per participant is Rs. 750/- for Academician and Rs. 1000/- for others. The fee includes access to all the Sessions, Course Material, Lunch and Tea. Outstation participants shall have to make their own lodging and boarding arrangements. The course is useful for not only the students, research scholar and faculty but also for all those who are concerned with development of ICT related services such as E-Tendering, ETransactions etc. in the E-Governance Projects.

All those interested may submit their registration form along with fees by 25th January, 2011. Since the number of seats is limited, the seats shall be filled on first come first serve basis. Few UG Students of NIT Hamirpur shall be allowed on the basis of merit.
