DISPLACEMENT ON DEMAND

DISPLACEMENT ON DEMAND

ABSTRACT

In this era of high fuel prices, the need for more fuel efficient trucks and large suv’s is becoming more prevalent to handle heavy loads. But to carry heavy load’s it requires large power train i.e. more power which means more fuel and less fuel economy. Thus we can say that the downside of these big power trains is that “one goal (i.e. fuel efficiency) must be sacrificed for the other (i.e. power).

For that most of the automobile manufacturers and suppliers have made improved fuel efficiency an important goal. Cylinder deactivation is a new technology with test results proving the ability to maximize this key objective. Deactivating cylinders can significantly reduce engine pumping losses under certain vehicle operating conditions. Which satisfy the need of customer in fuel economy and power.

Cylinder deactivation or displacement on demand technology deactivates engine cylinders during low-load conditions for improved fuel economy. For example, the engine controller directs the engine to generate power from only half of the cylinders when idling in traffic. When in the cylinder deactivation mode, fuel and spark is not delivered to half of the cylinders, ensuring improved fuel economy.

The concept behind new DISPLACEMENT ON DEMAND technology is simple: more power, less gas!
