Electronic Markets

Electronic Markets

Abstract

Internet is changing the way business gets done. In this talk we discuss e-Markets, the electronic marketplaces supported by the Internet to automate economic activity. E-Markets provide a unified view of the goods and services traded in the market and a variety of mechanisms to facilitate trade in such products. This talk covers the issues in organizing the information on goods traded in electronic catalogs, proper design of trading mechanisms and appropriate selection of a suitable mechanism for a particular economic environment.
Improved computational capabilities have created an opportunity for more complex market mechanisms that achieve more efficient allocation of goods. We will conclude the talk with a discussion on some new research directions in the area of market mechanism design.
