Functional Genomics in Silico

Functional Genomics in Silico

Abstract

The first draft of human genome sequence, which was made available early this year, has been the most stupendous achievement of the scientific community worldwide. Simultaneously, the community is now faced with the challenge of unravelling functionality from the data.

We have initiated development of computational approaches for analysis of completed genome sequence model to address the following questions:

Why some simple repetitive sequences show positional preferences in the genome? Does positional conservation reflect possible functional role?

Why prokaryotic promoter sequences are not conserved in various genome? Is there a structural homology that dominates over sequence homology?

How sequence conservation at the peptide level is relevant for the functional conservation of proteins? What are the structural significance of conserved peptides across many genomes?
