Informatic Support to Urban Water System's Modelling and Real Time Control

Informatic Support to Urban Water System's Modelling and Real Time Control

The lecture will address the issue of integrated informatic support to diagnosis, monitoring, testing, planning and design, real time operation and management of Urban Water Systems consisting of water abstraction, treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, storm water (and flood) management, urban streams and water amenities. Following the brief introduction of the global water issues, the emphasis will be placed on data need, data sources, data acquisition, processing. Recent advances in remote sensing, spatial data management, wireless data communication and informatic support to predicting and managing of natural disasters. Examples of wireless data communication for real time operation of water distribution systems and urban flood prediction and management will be used as an illustration of the current research in which there strong interaction (cooperation) of water (environmental) and computer science specialists is a prerequisite for success.
