The Art of Synthesis
Abstract
With the proliferation of microwave and rf circuit optimization programs, the art of filter synthesis seems to receiving little attention in the current literature and in university courses. Synthesis can provide an effective front-end stage of circuit design, even when optimization is used to produce the final design. This talk will review techniques developed over many years for the synthesis of classical L-C-UE filters and narrow bandpass and bandstop filters. The focus will be on synthesis in a transformed frequency variable, which simplifies the filter approximation problem for Chebyshev, Zolotarev and Butterworth passband responses, and also allows high accuracy in the realization of the circuit elements.
