ENCRYPTION ALGORITHMS

ABSTRACT :

The literature of encryption has always had a curious and circumspect history. Secrecy of data has always played an important role in the development of new encrypting algorithms. Cryptography and encryption are obliviously used in fields such as bank data, credit information, transaction data, etc. But its potential and prowess has been exploited more by government institutions and by the military. Encryption is exhaustively used to keep government data and military information, along with confidential data.

Encryption has found extensive use in e-commerce where transactions take place continuously between customers and vendors. E-transactions take place with encryption and other cryptographic methods like digital signature, digital time-stamping, digital certificates etc.

The introductory section discusses in brief the basic methods required in the making of a good encryption algorithm. It also discusses about security aspects which is one of the most important criteria involved in the development of any encryption algorithm.

The seminar encompasses the basic introduction regarding encryption along with the detailed discussion on two algorithms: DES (Data Encryption Standard) and RSA (Rivest, Shamir, Adelman).
