Important aspects of e-learning and distance teaching
Abstract
In this talk we argue that e-Learning and distance teaching using the WWW has to go much beyond offering some Web-based material with some simple interactivities and communication via email. Features such as customization, elaborate communication features and ideas such as 'active documents' and digital back-ground libraries are essential.
Also, various learning approaches using behaviouristic, cognitivistic or constructionist techniques have to be supported. Indeed it is argued that e-Learning should really be seen as knowledge-transfer, hence as one sub-aspect of what is today called 'knowledge management'. A brief discussion of what this means is included in the talk, and novel developments are pointed out.
It is also mentioned that fairly fancy systems for this mode of distance teaching do indeed exist.
