Cryogenic Cooling
Abstract
The word “cryogenics” is derived from two Latin words.
Cryo - means cold Genics - means science.
Cryogenics is “the science of cold”. It suggests that how to get low temperatures and how materials behave at the low temperatures. It includes unusual and unexpected material property variations appearing at low temperatures. This field has been an enormous growth especially after World War – II. To consider the field of cryogenics as that involving temperatures below -1500C (123K).
Cryogenic cooling or cryogenic refrigeration system is one of the system from cryogenics. Cryogenic systems that utilize cryogenic temperatures in their operation, such as advanced electronic systems, superconducting magnets and motors, all depend upon an effective refrigeration system to maintain the low temperatures required.
In cryogenic cooling space which is to be cool is cooled by absorbing heat from it with the help of refrigerant or coolant. Coolant may be reuse or spent to atmosphere. There are many methods used for production of low temperatures. Some methods are discussed here.
