ERGONOMICS IN AUTOMOBILES
ABSTRACT
This report discusses the ergonomic considerations for automobiles i. e. designing & arrangement of things in an automobile so that there is interaction between the user and the things which will be beneficial for human purpose.
Ergonomics amalgamates many sciences & technologies to maximize user’s safety, efficiency & reliability of performance of the car, makes user’s task easier & increases his feeling of comfort.
An ergonomic apparatus was designed and built to aid in the design of a Formula race car cockpit. The apparatus incorporated adjustable cockpit dimensions that were adjusted accordingly for the tested subjects. A compilation of this data was used to design a cockpit suitable for people within the range of 95th percentile male and 5th percentile female. By testing subjects in various cockpit designs, the ergonomics apparatus was also used to validate the final design of the cockpit.
