NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON RECENT TRENDS & CHALLENGES IN CIVIL ENGINEERING (RTCCE 2009) 18-19th December, 2009
Kavikulguru Institute of Technology & Science (KITS), Ramtek

THE INSTITUTE

The Kavikulguru Institute of Technology & Science (KITS), Ramtek was formally opened on 19th September 1985 by the eminent Scholar Hon.Late P.V.narsimha Rao, former Prime Minister of India. The Institute is Celebrating Silver Jubilee Year during 2009-10. This institute affiliated to the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur and has gained good reputation as one of the premier technological institute of India. It has been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Govt. of India and the Institute of Engineers (India), Kolkata. It is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation, AICTE, New Delhi. It has been awarded 1A-Grade’ by the Govt. of Maharashtra. Initially started with three basic engineering courses, the Institute has now six branches. Institute is also running a 5-year Architecture, 3-years Master in Computer Application (MCA), and 2-years Master in Business Administration (MBA) courses. Two Post-Graduate M.Sc. courses are also conducted by the Institute in collaboration with the University of West of England (UWE), Bristol, UK. The institute is headed by a dynamic and dedicated Principal Dr.Patel Bhaskar.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Civil Engineering has been established since the inception of the institute in 1985 with intake of 60 students. It has accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), A.I.C.T.E., New Delhi twice for its consistent quality-seeking approach towards dissemination of high-level technical knowledge. The department has grown tremendously over the years. The Department has well equipped laboratories with all testing facilities. Besides high quality teaching, the Department is actively involved in basic and applied research, consultancy and also provide high quality technical advisory support to various organizations at the national level. It also has an expertise in locating bore well points and rainwater harvesting. It was also involved in preparing water supply schemes under Jalswarajya Project of Govt. of Maharashtra.

THE RAMTEK

Situated about 45 kms from the Nagpur, Ramtek finds a mention in both mythological as well as historical texts. Well connected by road and rail, this picturesque township is totally free from the cacophony and pollution of big cities.
It was hallowed by the feet of Lord Rama when he visited the ashram of the great sage Agastya and thus the township derives the name Ramgiri or Ramtek. Kalidas, during the regime of King Vakataka around 400 A.D. visited Ramtek on a royal mission and captivated by the idyllic atmosphere, wrote his famous epic ‘Meghadootam’. The ‘Kalidas Smarak’ stands there today in memory of the great poet. KITS is situated 7 km away towards east from Mansar on Nagpur-Jabalpur NH7.

PREAMBLE

Last decade has witnesses a quantum jump in Technological advances notably in the field of infrastructural development and construction activities. In an increasingly knowledge driven global economy, invention and innovation are critical to long term competitiveness. hence technical institute have to keep pace with the rapidly changing technology. Understanding the availability and the current technology will boost the research.
In view of above aspects, the Department of Civil Engineering, KITS, Ramtek is organizing this National Conference as a part of Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the Institute.
The objective of this conference is to bring together innovative academicians, researchers, scientists and the experts from industry in various areas to a common platform for constructive and fruitful dialogue on emerging theoretical concepts and practical ideas in civil engineering.
