SHORT TERM COURSE ON ASSESSING SPONTANEOUS HEATING LIABILITY OF COALS USING NEURAL NETWORK AND CLEAN COAL TECHNOLOGY 27th - 30th October 2010
INTRODUCTION
Spontaneous Heating in coal mines and coal stacks is recognized as the major hazard in terms of safety and economy. Due to increasing demand of coals, it is becoming obvious to go for mining of thin coals lying under difficult geo-mining conditions which further welcomes the above problem. The proposed increase in coal production in our country would further increase immense problems in the mines and naturally the mine environment would be badly affected. It is therefore essential to study the spontaneous heating characteristics of coals considering the coal chemistry and also the geology of coal mass. Till date lots of researchers have made attempts to identify the reasons as well as for remedial measures but no concrete solution are established. There is enormous impact on mining and related activities including environmental problems leading to risk of doing work. The present course will focus on finding out the liability indices of coals using different methods to know the tendency towards to spontaneous heating for run-of-mine coals. These coals when are separated using clean coal technology not only their behavior changes but their susceptibility towards spontaneous heating also changes. These changes of behavior can be measured using Neural Network which will lead to safe storage and transportation of coals.
ABOUT NIT ROURKELA
National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela was founded as Regional Engineering College, Rourkela in 1961. It is a prestigious Institute with a reputation for excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, fostering the spirit of national integration among the students, a close interaction with industry and a strong emphasis on research, both basic and applied.
The city of Rourkela is a bustling industrial town, cosmopolitan by nature and is well connected to all parts of the country by road and rail. It is en-route Howrah-Mumbai main line of South-Eastern Railway. Nesting amidst greenery on all sides, NIT campus is approximately 7km from Rourkela railway station. Rourkela is also connected by Air via Ranchi and Kolkata.
