HIGH ALTITUDE PERFORMANCE OF DIESEL ENGINE

HIGH ALTITUDE PERFORMANCE OF DIESEL ENGINE

ABSTRACT

Naturally aspirated engines will produce power in direct proportion to the density of the intake air. A considerable power lost at high altitude. Therefore without increasing the weight and size of the engine, the power can be increased with the help of super charging or turbo charging.

In supercharging the compressor is driven mechanically by the engine. It takes as much as 20 % of the engine power also mechanical linkage is weak. So turbo charging is done which is particular form of super charging in which compressor is driven by an exhaust gas of the turbine. Thus  with the help of turbo charging we can improve the  power and efficiency of the diesel engine at high altitude than naturally aspirated engine.

  1. Diesel performance has come a long way. Let's face it, trucks have not always performed as well as they do today. Diesel engines originally were only good enough to run construction equipment. As technology advanced so did the uses, until today when we see trucks and even some cars powered by diesel.
