THE PEDAL POWERED WATER PUMP

THE PEDAL POWERED WATER PUMP

ABSTRACT

Reciprocating pumps have been is use for over two thousand years. Some sources claim that it is man's fourth invention, following the wedge, the lever and the wheel. One of the earliest   reciprocating pumps in use was in 150 b.c. in Alexandria. The unit consisted of water wheel which drove a camshaft which, through levers, caused a pair of pistons to reciprocate. The same principles are used in power pumps of today.
1) From the boiler and pushed back by atmospheric pressure after the steam.
One of the first applications using steam power was the Newcomen pumping engine which was introduced about 1711. The direct acting steam pump was invented by Henry Worthington in 1840 while eaged in experiments with a steam powered canal boat. The pump was very popularity of reciprocating pumps dropped considerably, although now, with the cost of energy increasing, they may regain on of the market share recently taken by centrifugal pumps.
