VEHICLE AERODYNAMICS
ABSTRACT
In previous decade there was no aerodynamic shape on vehicle. Today it is important to have a aerodynamic shape on vehicle for performance & stability, heating & ventilating & engine cooling of the vehicle. In this topic testing of aerodynamic shape is covered. The subject does not tend itself to traditional methods of mathematical analysis, and there is no equivalent of the simple formulae used in earlier days of determining the lift and drag of an aircraft from its geometry.
The road vehicle aerodynamic designer has very few mathematical tools. He has to reply much on empirical relationship derived from results obtained from various testing method. Most popular testing tools are wind tunnels. Today most major manufactures possess a large wind tunnel, and employ one or more aerodynamic specialist. All these things are covered in this paper.
