Fingerprint Identification
Abstract:
Fingerprint based identification is one of the most widely used Biometric techniques. This is one of the favorite fields of research for scientists and anatomists. What is fingerprint identification? How is it matched? Do two people have the same fingerprint? are the most common doubts everybody get and we are bringing out the answers for these questions in our paper.
In this advanced scientific world everybody wants to have social security. In such a case fingerprint identification phenomena plays a vital role. It not only helps us to have a unique identity but also helps in reducing the crime rate. We think the car doors or the room doors opened by scanning the fingerprint as shown in most of the Ian Fleming’s Bond movies to be mere fantasy but in near future even a common man can afford to acquire fingerprint scanners for his security.
This paper will give a wide view of the key words like ridges, furrows, bifurcation, minutiae, false acceptance ratio, false rejection ratio and also it emphasizes on finger print identification, matching, picture enhancement and problems faced during the process.
Introduction:
Among all the biometric techniques, fingerprint-based identification is the oldest method which has been successfully used in numerous applications. Everyone is known to have unique, immutable fingerprints. The science of fingerprinting constitutes the only unchangeable and infallible means of positive identification known to man. Identical twins have the same DNA configuration but they do not have identical friction ridge configuration. Fingerprint is a unique feature to an individual. It stays with a person throughout his or her life. This makes the fingerprint the most reliable kind of personal identification because it cannot be forgotten, misplaced, or stolen. For higher security - fingerprint recognition is the better method.
Fingerprint recognition provides a great solution for doors, computer room access, desktop login authentication, and application integration. Fingerprint recognition provides a low cost biometrics solution and with its small designs makes it a prime choice when setting up a high security solution.
