Knowing Artificial Intelligence
Abstract:
Artificial intelligence also known as machine intelligence, is the practice of developing algorithms that enables machines to make seemingly intelligent decisions, or act as if possessing intelligence of a human scale. Strong artificial intelligence is the area of research that deals with computer based artificial intelligence whereas weak artificial intelligence deals with the creation of some form of computer-based artificial intelligence. AI has a number of implications for the advancement of the human race and there are three primary schools of thought with regard to the future of AI: Enablement, Replacement, and Transformation. The theory of AI enablement promotes the idea that intelligent machines will allow us to achieve more by supplementing our capabilities. The theory of replacement contends that AI's will eventually surpass our capabilities of controlling them. The theory of transformation says that we will incorporate AI into our own. A "Friendly AI" is an AI that takes actions that are, on the whole, beneficial to humans and humanity; benevolent rather than malevolent; nice rather than hostile. There is a new era of computers incorporating the use of artificial intelligence. Humans can now communicate with computers through common everyday speech. The start of robotic sounding voices has evolved to a highly sophisticated voice technology system popularly known as voice recognition system that had sales of over $1.2 billion in 2004. Goal has been set to create general computational models to support characters that act in virtual environments. Decision-making, actions, memory, attention, voluntary muscles, and other human characteristics are been tried to be poured into machines which contributes to a new branch in AI. In AI, games are considered a form of adversarial search. Mathematical game theory, however, has its origins in the field of economics.
