Work Cell Controls
INTRODUCTION:
The robot work cell may be defined as a cluster of one or more robots and several machine tools or transfer lines that are interconnected in such a way that that they work together together in unison. All the necessary accessory equipment is embraced with in the work cell and, together establishes a particular environment. Fig. Illustrates a typical robot work cell.
Criteria for establishing and utilizing a robotic work cell include.
1) It must be capable of performing required machining functions on a limited no of parts of size with in predetermined limits.
2) One worker must be capable of operating the work cell with minimal skill requirements.
3) Selection of operator personnel from the shop floor must be possible.
4) Manual parts fabrication in the work cell must be feasible in case of system failure.
5)Compliant end effectors must be used because of inherent inaccuracies of available commercial robots.
6) Part programming must be done on line
7)Safety sensor must be installed for protection of personnel, equipment, and work in process.
8) Consistent quality must be maintained on parts.
9) Productivity must be increased to make the system economical.
10)Early implementation must be made for quickest payoff.
