WORLD CLASS MANUFACTURING

ABSTRACT

            The one universal truth in all manufacturing companies is that customers are demanding higher and higher levels of service which include higher quality and shorter lead times. World class manufacturing companies are characterised by continuously improving their customer service.
            World class manufacturing is a programme of continuous change and change has to be carefully managed. WCM aims to eliminate the loss of industries in terms of money and quality. In this respect two things are of overriding importance:
a.    One learns not to accept losses
b.    Creation of ownership, meaning that people carrying out a  certain  production  process, feel ownership of this process and initiate improvements, as well as implement them.
The four main characteristics of WCM are successively:
1. Make losses visible
2. Improvement   in team format
3. Organizing   process - oriented
 4. Standardize working methods.
            Application of world class manufacturing in any industries will help them in raising their performance far better than other industries.
