CONCURRENT ENGINEERING

CONCURRENT ENGINEERING

Abstract:

Intense competition in the global market for mechanical parts has compelled manufactures to reduce delivery times and quote competitive prices for meeting today’s customers expectation like superior quality, higher capabilities and superior performance.

Concurrent or simultaneous engineering is a methodology of restructuring the product development activity in an organization using a cross functional team and is a technique adopted to improve the efficiency of product design and reduce the product design cycle time.

This methodological approach is applied to all activities from the design of the product to customer support in an integrated way, in order to achieve production improvement, cost reduction, fulfillment of scheduled delivery dates, quality improvement and total flexibility in the manufacturing system.

In this paper simulation of casting process in foundries is presented. Today’s dynamic world requires quick responses to customers need. Thus casting simulation has become an everyday tool for the foundries which covers around 90%of the production of cast machine component. Over 90% of those foundries use cast CAE simulation.
