ABSTRACT:

India has vast water resources as compared to other countries. So, to know something about water is necessary. Means study of elements of hydrology is important. We should know the actual rainfall in a particular area. With that we should know the percentage of snowfall also. How to calculate runoff? What are evaporation, transpiration and evapo-transpiration? Which are the methods used to calculate it? These all questions can be answered by the study of water i.e. HYDROLOGY.

INTRODUCTION:

Water power is one of the major sources of energy. The other sources of energy being the thermal power developed by the fuels such as coal, oil etc. and nuclear power. By these we come to know, that what is ' WATER ' actually? That means if we want to progress in science, i.e. in development water is a main stair. To walk on the path of success of progress or development, we have to by stairs. And study of water i.e. ' HYDROLOGY'
is one of the major stairs of the progress.

Farmers are the bases of economy. And by knowing the actual rainfall, snowfall and runoff our farmers can give more stress on the particular crop on particular area.

So that we want study of water in all phases including hydraulics, physics and chemistry of water, meteorology and various other allied sciences dealing with the above and that is 'HYDROLOGY'.
