ABSTRACT:

High definition television or HDTV in short is high resolution TV. It has a twice the vertical & horizontal resolution i.e. twice the ability to convey the picture details in those direction. (As a compare ordinary TV); and has a quality comparable to that of the cinema picture. For the past twenty years the audio/video expert all over the world has been perfecting this new type of TV having size five times size of our largest TV set in which face of football on the pinch easily recognizable in even distant shots accompanied by the sound of compact disc quality. The luminance & color information is transmitted separately and the color rendition is improved. Also the pictures have wider aspects ratio is 16: 9 similar to movie theaters, as compare to the conventional 4: 3 found in present –day TV sets.
Digital techniques offer greater accuracy and stability, with better signal to noise ratios than analogue method, can provide for the video signals. Hence the video and sound signals are digitized by sampling and then processed.
The proposals outlines are aimed at improving the present TV system, which is more than 30 years old. Display technology and image signal processing has advanced tremendously over these years with the advent of digital signal processing and digital audio. It is high time the present TV technology underwent a change for a better.
It is sincerely hoped that HDTV technologies will mature soon a global world standard upon. Then the claims of “live-the-picture” and “feel-the-picture” would become a reality and not remain merely the imagery of the advertisement world.
