National Level Research Promotion Workshop on"Introduction to Graph and Geometric Algorithms PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore

Introduction:

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Applications of PSG College of Technology is organizing a workshop on Introduction to Graph and Geometric Algorithms jointly with Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai (TIFR) from 6th to 8th January 2011. The academic year 2011 – 2012 has been designated as the Diamond Jubilee year of PSG institutions, and is to be marked with a lot of additional academic activities. In support of this, the workshop is being organized to provide an excellent opportunity for students and young researchers. The focus of the workshop is to facilitate the participants to gain knowledge in Graph and Geometric algorithms by interacting with experts and scientists in this field. This workshop is the first in the series of Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Objectives:

* Graph and geometric algorithms are at the heart of many computer applications. So, it is expected that computer scientists and professional programmers know frequently used algorithms and generic techniques for efficient organization and retrieval of data, modeling, understanding and solving graph and geometric problems.
* This introductory workshop provides an opportunity to the participants for getting exposed to the field of graph and geometric algorithms, which would help them to design new algorithms and solve problems in this area.
* With this objective, graph and geometric theory and algorithms for some problems will be presented in the workshop by a distinguished panel of speakers.

Participants:

* Introductory courses in Discrete Mathematics, Data Structures and Algorithms are prerequistites to attend this workshop.
* Teachers and students (undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral) of Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering are eligible to attend this workshop.
* Scientists and engineers working in research laboratories or industries with required background are also welcome to attend the workshop.

Registration:

* There is no registration fee.
* Maximum of 100 participants will be selected for the workshop (Maximum 4 per institution).
* Refreshments & lunch will be provided to all participants at the workshop venue for all three days.
Dates:
* Start date for Online Registration - November 7, 2010.
* Last date for registration - December 6, 2010.
* Intimation of selection - December 15, 2010.

* The workshop is to be held at PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore.
* Inauguration : D Block Conference Hall (Ground floor).
* Lecture Hall : F Block, I Floor, Hall - 201

Accomodation/Travel:


* A limited number of accommodation is available in the Guest House Annexe for outstation participants on payment (`125/day per head, twin sharing).
* Room availability will be informed along with the intimation of selection.
* Payment for accommodation shall be made by cash during occupancy.
* Delegates are free to make their own arrangements for accommodation in Coimbatore where good hotels are available with affordable tariff rates.
