NETWORK SECURITY
ABSTRACT:
Threats to information security are appearing more and more frequently, and are of greater magnitude, than ever before. Threats come from both internal and external sources. They can be online or local, and range from accidental to malicious to criminal attacks that can expose your most sensitive business information to unauthorized use, disclosure, modification or even total loss.
Network security is a complicated subject, historically only tackled by well-trained and experienced experts. However, as more and more people become ``wired'', an increasing number of people need to understand the basics of security in a networked world. This paper is written with the basic computer user and information systems manager in mind, explaining the concepts needed to read through the hype in the marketplace and understand risks and how to deal with them.
This paper discusses the importance of security, threats to data, who are the enemies? What these enemies can do, Security tools. We go on to consider risk management, network threats, firewalls, and more special-purpose secure networking devices.
