NEW ADVANCES IN AIR BAGS SYSTEM FOR PASSENGER CAR
ABSTRACT:
In this competitive world the life of civilized man has become very fast which demand instant transportation, thus giving rise in percentage of road accidents, hence recently a lot of research has been done on safety of passengers, for that purpose new concept of airbags has introduced, which prevents head, thorax, pelvic, abdomen injuries. Although frontal impacts still accounts for the largest number of injuries in accident statistics, approximately 25% of all serious to fatal injuries are caused in side impact accidents. New advances in safety of car are given prime importance. Major automobiles industry in the world is investing cores of rupees in research and development of safety devices. Generally the safety is requiring in the vehicle during the accident so lot of research are going on to avoid the life damages occurring during accidents.
Literature review different safety techniques for safety in the vehicle which include double belt system, front and rear air bags etc. but this system is insufficient to protect head, thorax, pelvic, abdomen injuries. It is found that the injuries are generally occurs due to side impact collision and it nearly contribute one forth of the series or fetal injuries sustained by the occupants in ordinary passenger cars. The side impact protection system provides a substantially enhanced protection for car occupants for side collision
Methodology explain new advances in the air bags system. The protection level of the SIPS system has been further increased by the addition of the SIPSbag, a quick deploying side impact air bag system integrated in the seat backrest. The design of the non -electrical SIPSbag system is explained, as well as the advantage with the complete seat integrated system. The other side impact protection systems e.g., thorax, overall signal chamber, overall dual chamber, ITS head air bag systems are also discussed here. It is expected that, all these air bag systems will add to the passenger safety in the car. Further the energy absorbing elements were added to the car interior inside the door panel. Also many new advances in geometry and design has undergone in side air bags. Latest advances in shape and size of airbags and advantages of the system are discussed further.
As the SIPSbag is a part of the total SIPS system, it depends on and interacts with other parts of this system. Its led to modification of seat and door design. Also its manufacturing is explain in this paper.
So future scope of this paper is to make the design of side air bags simpler and to get the solid propellant which inflates the air bags in very short period of time. The material should be economical so that side bags can be implemented to all the cars so that safety can be achieve and many lives can be saved.
