The 11th Asian Urbanization Conference Osmania Univ. College of Engineering, Hyderabad
The 11th Asian Urbanization Conference is being hosted by the Department of Geography, Osmania
University Hyderabad, India in association with The Asian Urban Research Association (AURA). AURA
was established in January 1986 and is housed in the University of Akron, Ohio, USA. It is a non profit
and private research organization whose primary purpose is to promote the study of urbanization,
urban growth and to organize Asian Urbanization Conferences. The first Asian Urbanization Conference was held at the University of Akron in 1985. The conferences are biennial (held every other/alternate year) and have resulted in many publications. The scholarly legacy of the original organizers and the successful history of these conferences have served to brand this conference as of a recognized quality for a diversity of scholars and practitioners across the globe. Venue
The city of Hyderabad, comprising the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, is located
at17° 22' North and 78° 26' East. It has an average altitude of 536 metres above MSL. The annual
range of temperature in the city is 10 degrees to 44 degrees centigrade. The average annual rainfall
of the city is 85 cms. December has a relatively chilly climate. The population of Hyderabad was
about 7 Million in 2006 and the area is 1865 square kilometers. It is well connected to the rest of
India by road, rail and air. It also has an International Airport.
Osmania University, established in 1918, is the seventh oldest in India, the third oldest in south India
and the first to be established in the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad. With a sprawling campus
of nearly 1600 acres and buildings of majestic beauty and architectural splendor, Osmania
University, is perhaps, the largest higher education system in India. It is a home to nearly 300,000
students pursuing their higher studies in its Campus, Constituent, Affiliated Colleges and District
Centres. Its faculty and staff number nearly 5000. Osmania University is home to 3,000 international
students from 60 countries.
The Department of Geography, Osmania University, is the largest and the oldest in South India. It
was established in the year 1942. It offers M.Sc. Geography, M.Sc. Geoinformatics, Post - Graduate
Diploma in Geographical Cartography, M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs. The Department specializes in
Urban Geography, Development and Environmental Studies and Geoinformatics.

March 30, 2011 is the deadline for the submission of abstracts. Abstracts need to be of 100 to 200
words prepared in MS Word or compatible format. It should be submitted online and should

Conference Registration fee for early bird registrations before August, 10, 2011 is US $ 200 and for normal Registrations after that it is US $ 250. Excursions to important places in and around Hyderabad are planned for the delegates on advance
intimation and booking. Delegates are advised to apply early for these as participation will be

Day) ;Mysore – Bangalore( Three Days); Chennai – Kanchipuram-Mahaballipuram ( Three Days).

equipment will be organized during the Conference to encourage interested companies to show-
case their products & services. The Conference will offer an ideal mix of clientele for these products
and will be of immense benefit to the exhibitors and academic fraternity.

Local Transportation
Visitors may avail of Aeroexpress to reach the city. The airport (Shamshabad Airport) is 37 kilometres
away from Osmania University Campus. Metered Taxi Service is also available from the airport to
any part of the city. It takes an average of one hour travel time to reach Osmania University from the
Airport.
