PSG-IBM SOA and Cloud Computing Research Initiative’s Intensive Research workshop on SOA and Cloud Computing

About the Workshop

The workshop is planned for three days. The workshop will provide technical sessions supplemented with demonstrations, which entail in depth and comprehensive knowledge on service Oriented Architecture and understand the Synergy between SOA Cloud Computing. The SOA and Cloud Cell Architects from IBM will address the workshop. Academicians, Engineering professionals can attain exposure to the research directions, latest trends such as Web Services, XaaS from core to the fine edge of application. Our aim is to be in line with the latest technology, updation with the recent developments in this field. It should translate our ambitious mission to be a leader, the best in the field of computers technology. At the end of the workshop a panel discussion is planned to arrive at the comprehensive plans to enter into the real
research zone of SOA and Cloud Computing.

PSG-IBM Research Initiative

PSG College of technology which is one among the pioneers in engineering education has collaborated with IBM, for organizing a research intensive workshop on SOA and Cloud computing. IBM is a multinational company that offers infrastructure, hosting and consulting services from mainframe to nano technology. It also delivers industry leading SOA accelerators, cloud integration software appliances and services. The objective of PSG –IBM research initiative at department of CSE is to nurture innovative thoughts and gain insight into research expectations from industry. This partnership will cultivate exchange of ideas and knowledge between academia and industry.

SOA and Cloud Computing – Research Focus

The technologies and ideas behind Cloud Computing and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) are not new. In fact, both concepts have been with us for decades, even if they were called by simpler terms like the Net or Web and centralized services.SOA is an architectural pattern, while cloud computing is a
set of enabling technologies as a potential target platform or technological approach for that architecture. Hence SOA and cloud computing are complementary, not competitive and a synergy exists between SOA and cloud computing. Cloud computing can be viewed as a vast quilt on which any application can run, and SOA is the stitching that allows your application to connect to it. Ideas behind SOA and Cloud are powerful and still not fully utilized or understood, and both have been on a steep transition path over the past 15 years. Significant research works are yet to be carried out in areas such as service Discovery, Composition in the cloud, QoS, Automation and dynamism aspects of service invocation, service integration, Cloud Governance, Security, Interoperability, Context awareness, runtime monitoring and adaptation, dynamic
service discovery and composition, event-driven SOA, real-time applications, Virtualization aspects and the like. This workshop would be an eye opener for those who wish to focus their research on the state of the art technologies. Further, it will outline the research areas, each of which is identified with its rationale, overview of current research, and delineation of research challenges and opportunities.
