Current Opening Advertisement for Professorial Chairs At Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

The Institute invites nominations from self, donor of the endowment, or Head of an Institution/organization or head of a department of IIT Roorkee, for the Award of Chair Professor and Chair Associate Professor in the institute. The nominee must be an Indian National.

Qualifications & Experience:

1. Professor

Ph.D. with first class at the preceding degree or equivalent with first class or equivalent with a very good academic record and a minimum of 10 years‟ exp erience of which at least 4 years should be at the level of Associate Professor in IITs, IISc Bangalore, IIMs, NITIE Mumbai and IISERs or at an equivalent level in any such other Indian or foreign institution/institutions of comparable standards.

2. Associate Professor

Ph.D. with first class at preceding degree or equivalent in the appropriate branch with a very good academic record throughout and a minimum of six years teaching/Industry /Research experience of which at least three years‟ should be at the level of Assistant Professor, Senior Scientific Officer/Senior Design Engineer.

NOTE:

An outstanding engineer/technologist working in industry and with established reputation, and who has made significant contribution to knowledge but not having a Ph.D. degree could also be considered. Such appointment will be made only sparingly and in extremely deserving cases as per IIT Roorkee rules.

Terms and Conditions:

(a) Salary shall be paid as per Institute rules.
(b) Liability on Retirement benefits shall be paid only from the endowment fund for Award in respect of the candidate from category (2).
(c) In certain existing Chairs where the funds are insufficient, persons under Category 1 (i) only may be considered for the award, however Contingency and Perks will not be payable.
(d) Chair Professor/AssociateProfessor is allowed to undertake consultancy work, and sponsored research. However, in this regard, IIT Roorke rules for regular faculty/faculty on deputation to IITR/re employed faculty, as the case may be, shall be applicable.
(e) Chair Professor /Associate Professor is entitled to leave as applicable to regular faculty/faculty on deputation to IITR/re-employed faculty as the case may be.
(f) Award of Chair Professor shall be made normally for 3 years or upto 68 years of age whichever is earlier. However, he/she may also be considered for another tenure of 3 years. Applicants should be less than 68 years of age and should possess clear 2 years to serve on the Chair. In the case of outstanding individuals who are physically fit, age limit may be relaxed upto 70 years of age.
(g) Chair Professor/Chair Associate Professor may attend one national conference per year subject to availability of fund in Chair account. (h) Chair Professor/Chair Associate Professor may attend one international conference in three years subject to availability of fund in Chair account (i) Chair Professor/Chair Associate Professor will be assigned to a relevant department/centre as per objectives of the Chair by the Director.
