Solution development using discrete manufacturing for a process manufacturing industry
1. Introduction
Implementation of Oracle applications for a Process industry using oracle discrete manufacturing package.
For Process manufacturing companies looking to implement oracle applications in the fast track mode, until now there was no fast track solutions available using oracle process manufacturing. The implementation used to be in the conventional mode using conventional methods and practices which would mean that the project duration would be longer.
2. Subject Clarity
ImplementatioProcess manufacturing solution built on Oracle discrete manufacturing package by Hexaware’s Oracle practice.
Companies manufacturing allied products procure oracle discrete manufacturing package for their implementation. However, the
conventional mode is time consuming. To counter this, Hexaware implemented oracle applications discrete manufacturing suite for a process manufacturing industry manufacturing soaps and allied products.
3. Problem Definition Re-Statement
Hexaware’s Oracle team faced a challenge to design a solution for process manufacturing industries using the Oracle discrete manufacturing suite. The challenges involved Mapping of Process Manufacturing onto Discrete Manufacturing Package, ensuring clients process requirements were totally met, and reducing the time frame for implementation using Oracle RapidStart (Discrete Manufacturing) templates.
4. Solution Proposition
To overcome the challenges, Hexaware compressed the time frame thereby reducing the cost of implementation service to the process manufacturers.
Hexaware is a preferred partner of Oracle Corporation, with more than 150 man years of Oracle experience. The solution has been developed by blending our rich experience in enterprise domains, ERP programming and technical architecture of Oracle with our focused and established Oracle practice. This solution significantly minimizes the effort involved in the requirement gathering phase and enables clients to view the pilot in the new RapidStart Instance platform with data and within the shortest possible time. Recent implementations have shown a significant savings in time and cost for IT executives and business leaders of processes.
Hexaware’s Oracle Practice team has developed a solution which would meet the requirements of a Process Industry. Some of the significant points are:
Multiple Units of Measures with conversion
Mapping of co-products and by-products with costing for the same
Solution for actual consumption of ingredients and handling of material over consumption, and under consumption.
Solution for change of item grades / item status.
The Pre-requisites for deployment of this Solution included the requirement of Oracle RapidStart.
Multiple Units of Measures with conversion: Extensions were done to meet the UOM conversion requirements of a process industry .The conversion for the secondary unit of measure was defined and defaulted to the transactions; any variances were noted and balanced using wip material transactions for excess and shortage conversion residues. Additionally, by-products and co-products were tracked using BOM feature which defaults a specific predefined quantity on completion of the work order. Variances/deviations if any, from standard quantities are manually entered and reported.
