ABSTRACT

In today’s competitive world, to satisfy the each and every need of product, the designer keep in mind that product should be with high quality in the market. To achieve this condition, the product should have optimal design. If any failure or unsatisfied parameter will be there in product. Then it is necessary to change the design of product. The process of maximizing desired parameter and minimizing desired parameter is nothing but optimization.

In this seminar we will discuss the optimization and its method. In its design or in its process manufacturing. Here we will see the case study of oil seal for process optimization and car door latch for the design optimization.

INTRODUCTION

In today’s competitive world, any product is required to design in response to individual or social needs, which can be satisfied by technological status of the times. Product design and development is a continuous process which relies on customer’s satisfaction. Hence, it has got highest responsibility on the industrial designer to design the product, which fulfills consumer’s need. It is utmost essential to adopt optimization throughout the development of product.

Product design is now not confined to few creative artists, can be learned by systematic study. Earlier stress was laid on design as a synthesis of stress analysis, theory of mechanisms and machines and other subject like thermal engineering and fluid mechanics. But current approach is to expose the student to the morphology of design process. In modern design education, the student is encouraged to solve real life problem with various optimization tools.
