SENSOTRONIC BRAKING SYSTEM
ABSTRACT
Mechatronics a new term is gaining popularity within the automotive industry and automobile industries are continuously developing new technologies using Micro-Electro-Mechanical system (MEMS). Mechatronics brings together two disciplines which is many case were thought to be irreconcilable, namely mechanics and electronics. Hence automobile function which hitherto worked purely mechanically and party with hydraulic assistance will in future be controlled by high performance microcomputer and electronically controllable actuators.
Sensotronic braking control system is a Micro-Electro-Mechanical system in which mechanical instruments along with electrical and electronic elements are used for braking purpose. It turns the conventional hydraulic brake into an even more powerful mechatronics system. Its microcomputer is integrated into the car’s data network and processes information from various electronic control units. In this way, electric impulses and sensor signals can be converted in to braking commands, providing a marked safety and comfort gain for drivers.
It performs other additional functions which are
1. Soft stop function.
2. Dry braking function.
3. Traffic jams assist.
4. Drive away assist.
Mercedes-Benz is approaching to implement this system in their future cars.
