5th National Power Electronics Conference 2011 At Bengal Engineering & Science University, Shibpur, Howrah, Wesh Bengal

National Power Electronics Conference 2011

The National Power Electronics Conference 2011 (NPEC 2011) is the 5th biennial conference of the Power Electronics community in India, focusing on the ongoing research in this area and seeking to find potential users of the laboratory-scale developments in industry. Launched in 2003 October at IIT Bombay, it was biennially held at IIT Kharagpur in December 2005, at IISc Bangalore in December 2007, at IIT Roorkee in June 2010. The present version of NPEC will be held in December 2011.

The objectives of the conference are to provide a forum to promote and accelerate high quality research inviting professional interactions for the advancement and indigenisation of Power Electronics in India. Papers with up-to-date research results are encouraged for submission. Specifically, papers having significant experimental results to validate the propositions will be given preference. Technical papers will be accepted for presentation after peer review. The pre-conference tutorials will be held on December 19, 2011. Apart from these plenary sessions, keynote lectures and invited talks will also be held. The country’s industry, research establishments and academia are cordially invited to participate in the paper presentations, tutorials, special sessions, exhibitions and social activities, and enjoy the hospitality of the 155-year old engineering institution which was the mother of the entire planning and implementation of IIT system in India.

Located flush on the banks of the river Hooghly, the erstwhile Bengal Engineering College (or B.E. College) presently stands as Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur, Howrah. Sprawling over 170 acres of lush and varied greenery (being a part of the Indian Botanic Garden, 155 years ago) it has 7 halls of residence, 8 hostels, 2 of the best and biggest campus based playgrounds in eastern India. It has too many dwindling ingredients of “the Raj days”. Historic buildings, the celebrated clock-tower, the lush greenery and the cool river breeze - all cast a spell. It is 45 minutes drive from the Dum Dum Airport, 15 minutes from the Howrah railway terminus, 30 minutes from the Sealdah railway terminus and 20 minutes from the Kolkata City centre. The new railhead at Shalimar is 2 minutes drive from the campus. It is also in the fitness of things, that the Department of Electrical Engineering is simultaneously celebrating its Centenary year.

Call for Papers

First Call for Papers (floated in December 2010). (Download)

FIRST SUBMISSION

Interested authors must submit an abstract of 200 words (maximum) and a 5-page extended abstract of the work. The Abstract of 200 words must first mention the appropriate sub-area as laid down under each topic paragraph as mentioned in the menu, "Topics of Interest". Please follow the link, "Paper Submission" in the main page for uploading the abstract and uploading the extended abstract (extended abstract should be a pdf file).

The extended abstract (A4 paper, 5 pages long) must present the problem and its motivation, key equations and important results. It should also contain the abstract of the paper, figures, tables, results and references as appropriate. Experimental evidence presented in the extended abstract will be of value to the reviewers rather than a promise of the same in the final paper. The extended abstract should contain only the title of the paper, and should not contain the names and affiliations of the authors as the review will be “double blind.” The extended abstract should be in double-column format with single line spacing and a font size of 11. Graphics must be of sufficiently high resolution. Text inside graphics must be legible and should not be below font size 7. Authors must try to send the complete paper in the form of the extended abstract so that only the modifications suggested by the reviewers are added in the final paper which should not exceed 6 pages.

FINAL SUBMISSION

The "Authors' kit", detailing the format of the final paper, will be posted here in future.

The final paper should not exceed 6 A4 pages. For each extra page thereafter, additional charges have to be paid, as would be decided LATER by the organizers and will be posted here in future.

Accepted papers have to be FINALLY presented orally by one of the registered authors for getting included in the final conference proceedings.

The final papers will be included in the conference proceedings which will be brought out in electronic form on compact disks / dvd’s. Along with final submission (if not earlier), at least one of the authors must register for the conference for the paper to be included in the proceedings. A book of abstracts will also be published.

For wider dissemination, the accepted papers will be archived in the NaMPET website (www.nampet.org) which will permit free access to registered users under terms and conditions for fair use.

Location

The National Power Electronics Conference (NPEC) 2011 will be held in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU), Howrah, India - 711103.

BESU Shibpur is located in the city of Howrah (twin city of Kolkata, more popular as the yesteryear Calcutta). It is in the Shibpur area of Howrah and is near the Botanical Garden (2 bus-stops away). From the Howrah railway station, it is almost 5-6 kms. From Rabindra Sadan, a well-known landmark of southern part of the city of Kolkata, it is around 7 kms via the Vidyasagar Setu (bridge). Frequent bus service, taxi services are available from different parts of Kolkata and also from Howrah Station to BESU.

Accommodation

Persons attending the conference and staying in and around Kolkata will have to arrange for their accommodation themselves. Limited number of rooms are available at the BESU guest house which will be reserved for persons coming from neighbouring states. Date of booking, booking procedure will be put up in the website later. Maximum efforts will be taken to ensure booking of persons coming from far-away places but cannot be guaranteed in the beginning. In case accommodation is arranged, boarding and lodging charges will have to be paid extra (not a part of conference registration charges). Complimentary lunch and snacks will be provided on all conference days and dinner will be provided on 20th and 21st December 2011.

Please refer to applicable websites to have informations about accommodation (hotels, guest houses etc.) in and around Kolkata / Howrah (Shibpur, Botanical Garden).

During the month of December, the cities of Kolkata and Howrah area offer very pleasant climate. The average temperature during the day is between 22-28 degree Celsius. At night, the minimum temperature may be as low as 10-12 degree Celsius. Generally it does not rain and is dry.
