International Short Term Course on Engineering and Management in Fisheries and Aquaculture At Indian Institute of Technology, Khargapur

INTRODUCTION

Engineering is the activity of using scientific understanding and technical knowledge to create useful
devices and processes. In the field of aquaculture and fisheries, a wide variety of activities such as site
selection, design and construction of farms, facilities, equipment; design and construction of fishing
vessels, fishing gear, cage systems for mariculture; formulation and manufacture of feed; processing and
value addition of fish; environmental protection etc. require inputs of engineering.

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this course is to introduce the fundamental tools and techniques of engineering that can
be applied to enhance the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of fisheries and aquaculture.

COURSE CONTENTS

1. Planning and Design of Aquacultural Farms
2. Engineering Principles of Pond Water Quality Management
3. Principles of Fishing Vessel and Fishing Gear Design
4. Design of Aquacultural Facilities and Equipment
5. Engineering Principles in Processing and Preservation of Aqua-products
6. Modeling Techniques in Fisheries and Aquaculture
7. Application of Statistics and Computers in Fisheries and Aquaculture
8. Fisheries and Aquacultural Engg Lab
9. Field Visits
10. Special Lectures

ELIGIBILITY

Officers in fisheries departments, directorates, ministries, banks, government and private organizations
and scientists and teachers in fisheries and aquaculture institutes, colleges and universities involved in
education and research in the field of fisheries and aquaculture are eligible to apply.

LAST DATE latest by 21s October 11.

COURSE FEE

Candidates are expected to be deputed by their employers. The course fee as follows is to be paid by 21st

October 11 by Demand Draft drawn in favour of 'CEP-STC, IIT Kharagpur', payable at Kharagpur, India:

International Participants: US $ 1500.00
Particpants from SARC countries: US $ 1300.00
Participants from India: Rs 45000.00

ACCOMMODATION & FOOD

Accommodation & food will be arranged in a Guest House inside IIT campus. The cost of
accommodation and food is included in course fee.

APPLICATION & SPONSORSHIP

Candidates are expected to be sponsored by their employers/ sponsoring organizations. They should
express their interest of participation to their employers/sponsoring organizations with an application
attaching a personal data sheet providing name, date of birth, indicating male/female, official designation
& address, contact address, telephone number, fax number & mobile number, educational qualification,
work experience etc. Employers/Sponsoring organizations are requested to express their interest of
sponsoring the candidates to Course Coordinator with personal data sheets and course fee latest by 21st
October 11.
