International Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing "Issues, Trends and Practices (ICSM-2011) At Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani, Rajasthan
Introduction
Expansion of economic activity led to the concerns about climate change, energy security and natural resource scarcity. It is well documented that manufacturing consumes more than a third of the energy used globally, hence the concern for sustainability has grown manifold during the last two decades. All major industries are taking great interest in sustainable manufacturing and are undertaking a number of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives; but progress falls far short of meeting these pressing challenges. Improvements in efficiency in some nations have been offset by increasing consumptions in other nations, particularly the emerging nations. The current pattern of consumption and methods of manufacturing in emerging countries suggest that the UN’s indicators for sustainable development like greenhouse gas emission, waste volume, air quality and non-renewable material are far short of the targets.
The main aim of conference is to provide an interdisciplinary platform of sustainable manufacturing for academicians, practitioners, engineers and students working in various areas under the umbrella of sustainable development. Participants from industry, academics and government across the globe will share and discuss the latest research & practices and future challenges in development of innovative products, processes and practices with emphasis on environmental, economic and societal aspects of manufacturing.
Call For Papers
You are invited to submit research papers and case studies on topics relating to the conference. We welcome submissions that address any topic within the broad areas of sustainable manufacturing. The guidelines to write the abstract and to prepare the camera-ready manuscript are available on conference website. Authors are required to submit the camera-ready manuscripts as e-mail attachments to icsm2011.bits@gmail.com. Paper submission can also be done through conference website.Published works or earlier reported works are not acceptable and the language of the conference is English.
