BLU-RAY Disc

BLU-RAY Disc

ABSTRACT

BLU-RAY disc is a next generation optical disc format meant for storage of high definition video and high density data .It can record, store and playback high digital audio as well as computer data. The advantage of BLU-RAY is the sheer amount of information it can hold:
1. A single layer BLU-RAY disc, which is roughly the same size as a DVD, can hold up to 27GB of data-that’s more than 2hours of high definition video or about 13 hours of standard video.
2. A double layer BLU-RAY disc can store up to 54 GB enough to hold about 4.5 hours of high definition video or more than 20 hours of standard video.
BLU-RAY gets its name from the blue- violet laser it uses to read and write to the disc. BLU-RAY discs not only have more storage capacity than traditional DVDs, but they also offer a new level of interactivity. Users will be able to connect to the Internet and instantly download subtitles and other interactive movie features.
It has been jointly developed by the BLU-RAY Disc Association (BDA), a group of leading consumer electronics and PC companies (including Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson).
It’s success will make the world look to BLU-RAY as the future of storage media.
Which will have the potential to lower the costs and ensure it’s easy availability round the globe!!!!!!!
The following papers would help us familiarize with the concept behind the very latest and happening transferable storage media---THE BLU-RAY!!!!!
And in turn discuss the features, working, production, applications and it’s position in today’s competitive technical mart, as compared with existing discs.
