MODEL-BASED ENGINEERINGADVANTAGES
AND CHALLANGES
Abstract
Model-based engineering started as a vision about 20 years ago and is approaching reality
today. The basic technology is an object-oriented product model, also known as Building
Information Model (BIM). Knowledge based extentions and web- and GRID-service based
usage are cutting edge technology implementations of BIM. 4D, the modern working
methodology in construction planning is one of its major spin-offs. In the seminar key
concepts, modelling requirements, examples and best practice application will be
discussed. Topics of the course are:
• The Vision of the Building Information Model
• Integration and Interoperability
• Collaborative Working (Mapping, Matching and Merging of design data)
• Compare algorithms detecting design changes
• Delta-based version management for storing design changes
• Mobile Working using BIM
• Best practice projects
