HIGH PERFORMANCE STEEL FIBRE REINFORCED CONCRETE FOR SEISMIC RESISTANT STRUCTURES

HIGH PERFORMANCE STEEL FIBRE REINFORCED CONCRETE FOR SEISMIC RESISTANT STRUCTURES
18-29, May 2009

HOW TO APPLY

Application in the prescribed format attached
herewith duly recommended/sponsored by the Head
of the Institution/Organization should reach the
coordinator on or before 03-04-2009. Candidates
are advised to make use of electronic mailing facility
for all communications, as the time available is short

INTRODUCTION

Strength and ductility are the two important
parameters to be considered in the design of
structures subjected to seismic forces. Ductility implies
ability to sustain significant inelastic deformations
prior to collapse. Ductile behaviour of the members
enable or permit the redistribution of moments at
critical sections like beam column joints, when the
moments reach their maximum value. Several
attempts were made in the past to improve the ductile
properties of concrete. Investigations indicate that
addition of randomly oriented short discrete steel
fibres improves many of the engineering properties
of conventional concrete and further attempts on
High Performance Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete
(HPSFRC) revealed that HPSFRC could be effectively
used for structures subjected to seismic/impact/
dynamic loads. Here, strength and behaviour and
applicability of HPSFRC to seismic resistant structures
are discussed in detail.

OBJECTIVES

This course is conceived to address the need for
introducing the High Performance Steel Fibre
Reinforced Concrete in the structures which are
designed and constructed in the seismically active
regions.
