AICTE / MHRD Sponsored SUMMER SCHOOL ON Fundamentals and Recent Advances in RF and Microwave Communication A Continuing Education Programme of IIT Kharagpur For AICTE Approved Engineering College Teachers
Dec. 07 - Dec. 20, 2009
Organized by
Department of Electronics & Electrical Communication Engineering Indian Institute of TechnologyKharagpur - 721 302
OBJECTIVES AND INTRODUCTIONProliferation of wireless systems in every facet of polity is no more a new phenomenon, it is happening for last three decades. However, what is new is the emergence of wireless systems employing RF and microwave design philosophy. Wide area coverage Cellular systems, Wireless LAN and myriads of other wireless systems are coming to the market every now and then. To conform them to uniform standards, several wireless standards like WIMAX, EVDO, LTE etc are being defined. New design approaches like EMI/EMC design and MMIC design. were haunting the computer hardware industry for quite some time. Not only the scientists working for Indian Defence and Space programmes, even the Telecommunication circuit and system designers are now requiring manpower trained in these RF and microwave design techniques. So, a national need exists for training educators and practicing engineers the underlying principles of modern RF system design.
Scope of the Short Course
The short term course will focus on the emerging areas of Wireless systems with an emphasis on the fundamentals of RF and microwave Theory and Techniques. It will cover the basic EM theory starting from Maxwell's Equations, antenna principles and measurements as well as, EMI/EMC design issues concerning RF system design. The theoretical lectures would be supplemented with rigorous hands-on-practical. on all the above topics. The course will expose the participants to emerging research areas like Microwave Imaging, RF Mems, Cognitive Radio, RF system Design, Wireless Channel Modeling, High Power Electromagnetics so that they can enrich their fundamental knowledge with state-of-the-art in Microwave Wireless Techniques. The course faculty would be chosen from the experts from IIT Kharagpur and outside who are teaching and researching on RF and Microwave system design for several decades. The course will try to strengthen the foundation level knowledge and research exposure of the RF educators teaching EM and Microwave courses.Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (commonly known as IIT Kharagpur or IIT KGP) is a technical institute founded by the Government of India in 1951. The first of the seven IITs to be established, it is recognized as an Institute of National Importance and is regarded as one of the top engineering institutions in world. IIT Kharagpur was established to train scientists and engineers after India attained independence in 1947. It's organizational structure as well as its undergraduate admission process is shared by sister IITs. Among all IITs, IIT Kharagpur has the largest campus (2,100 acres), the most no. of Departments, and the highest student enrollment.
