About the Training Program

The one week short term training program on ‘Advanced Engineering Optimization through Intelligent Techniques’ is scheduled to be held during December 14- 18, 2009. The main objective of this training program is to promote the application of optimization methods in the engineering sciences. This includes facilitating the advanced optimization methods for direct or indirect use in engineering. The training program provides a forum in which the participants obtain information about recent advances of optimization sciences and learn about the needs of engineering sciences and successful applications of optimization methods. It tries to close the gap between optimization theory and the practice of engineering. The proposed training program presents all traditional and non-traditional methods of optimization of relevance to applications in engineering sciences: deterministic and stochastic, continuous, mixed integer and discrete, when they are relevant to applications in engineering sciences. It also highlights successful applications of optimization in various areas and contains sessions for the participants without a strong background in the field, which offer material aimed at educating potential users of optimization methodologies.

Eligibility for Participation

The training program is open to engineering college teachers (both degree and polytechnic) from AICTE approved institutions. As the training program is of interdisciplinary nature, engineering faculty members of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Applied Mechanics, and Chemical engineering disciplines can attend the program.

Topics to be Covered

• Classical optimization techniques
• Constrained and unconstrained deterministic linear and non-linear programming methods
• Multi-objective optimization
• Genetic algorithms, Simulated annealing, Tabu search, Particle swarm optimization, Ant colony algorithm, Artificial immune algorithm, Artificial Bee Colony algorithm, Harmony Search Algorithm, Biogeocide algorithm, Hybrid methods of optimization, etc.
• Neural network based optimization
• Fuzzy concept in optimization
• Graph theoretical optimization
• Multi-attribute decision making methods such as Analytical hierarchy process (AHP), TOPSIS, PROMETHEE, ELECTRE, DEA, VIKOR, etc.
• Various interdisciplinary real world case studies

Registration Fee

There is no fee for the teachers from AICTE approved institutions. Selected participants are eligible for free boarding and lodging in the institute’s hostels. To and fro charges limited to AC 3-Tier train or AC deluxe bus will be paid.

Program Faculty

Senior faculty members of SVNIT Surat, IITs and BARC will deliver the lectures and impart training.

Last Date of Registration

The completed registration form may be sent either as an e-mail attachment (aeotit@gmail.com), or as a hard copy on or before 07-12-2009. The registration form MUST contain the signature of the Head of the Institution with seal.
