Preamble

Data warehousing and data mining is one of the most advanced fields of computer science which involves use of Mathematics, Statistics, Information Technology and Information Sciences in discovering new information and knowledge from large databases. It is a new emerging interdisciplinary area of research and development which has created interest among scientists of various disciplines like computer science, mathematics, statistics, information technology etc. It has also been incorporated in the curriculum of B.Tech., M.Tech., MCA and PhD Courses in the areas of computer science, Information Technology, Bio Informatics etc. One of the problems that country is facing is lack of trained man power in this area. Also the faculty is teaching only theory of data warehousing and data mining in colleges and the practical aspect of the subject is missing. In view of this it is proposed to organize short term training programme on data warehousing and data mining at Department of Mathematics and Humanities, SVNIT, Surat to update the knowledge of the faculty. Thus this program will be highly relevant for technical education especially for participants from Computer Science, Information Technology and Computer Applications etc.. Further this program will be of great national interest as it will provide a platform for sharing knowledge, expertise and resources, in the area of data warehousing and data mining.

Objective of the Course

• To discuss the application orientation of data ware housing and data mining concept and to motivate participants to imbibe this in their instructional programme.
• To create awareness among the participants about this developing area particularly from engineering and science discipline.
• To provide exposure of utility significance and importance of data ware housing and data mining.
• To give exposure to teachers and researchers about new challenges and opportunities for development of computational models, algorithms, tools and techniques of data warehousing and data mining.
• To provide enough time in training programme for a close interaction of all participants and resource persons.
