In continuation of the tradition of celebrating the birth day of the gifted Mathematician Shri Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Department of Mathematics , IIT Madras is conducting a "National Symposium on Mathematical Methods and Applications(NSMMA 2009)" on 22.12.2009 (Tuesday). The symposium will have invited talks and poster presentation sessions. The presentation may be from any area of Mathematics.
Registration is compulsory for all the participants.Registration fee is Rs 200. The draft is to be drawn in favour of "National Symposium on Mathematical Methods and Applications" payble at SBI, IIT Madras, Chennai 36.

Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics is one among the Sixteen science and engineering departments which serves the academic needs of our institute. The department offers M.Sc.,M.Tech (Industrial mathematics and Scientific Computing) and Ph.D. programmes in mathematics in addition to teaching mathematics to B.Tech., M.Tech., M.S., and Ph.D. students of the Institute. It has highly qualified faculty members actively engaged in teaching, research, continuing education programmes and consultancy.The Department conducts various research acvities which are both fundamental and applied in nature.In particular, expertise is available in:
