ORSI Announces
Operational Research Society of India Madurai Chapter (ORSI-MC) and Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE) are pleased to announce that the 43rd Annual Convention of ORSI in conjunction with an International Conference on Operational Research for Urban and Rural Development (ORURD) will be held from 15th to 17th of December 2010 at TCE, Madurai. A set of selected papers presented at the conference will be reviewed for getting published in special issues of various leading journals related to Operational Research, Operations Management and Industrial Engineering.
Conference Objectives
The conference aims to provide a forum for
* Researchers from various regions of our country to interact and discuss issues dealing with OR applications in education, energy, finance, government, health services, manufacturing industries, mining, sports and transportation.
* Engineers, Technologists, Scientists, Policy Makers and Decision Makers who have influence on Urban and Rural Development, to learn and share OR application and implementation experiences.
* OR practitioners and academicians to personally update on concepts, techniques, and optimization / statistical software tools.
Theme of ORSI-2010 Conference
Divide between urban and rural development in sectors such as education, energy, finance, administrative bodies, health services, manufacturing industries, sports, and transportation are becoming huge and efforts have been taken by government to reduce them. Operational Research (OR) has been widely used for bridging this divide to maximum extent. The main emphasis of this conference is to bring together academicians and experienced OR practitioners within the country and also from outside the country to discuss their experiences in bridging the divide between Urban and Rural Development.

Operations Research Society of India (ORSI)
The Operational Research Society of India was founded in 1957 to provide a forum for the Operational Research (OR) analysts to share their expertise and widen their knowledge in application of OR in multi-disciplinary arena. It has its headquarters in Kolkata and is managed by a duly elected governing Council. ORSI has many Chapters in different parts of the country. ORSI conducts graduate examination once in a year at several centres in India and this graduateship examination is recognized by MHRD, Govt. of India. The ORSI publishes a quarterly flagship journal OPSEARCH under co-publication arrangement with Springer. The Society is affiliated with the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS).

Operational Research Society of India - Madurai Chapter (ORSI-MC)
Operational Research Society of India - Madurai Chapter was founded in 2007. The objective of this chapter is to promote applications of OR and disseminate knowledge to the students and practitioners in and around Madurai. This chapter frequently organizes lecture topics in the emerging areas of OR.
